Dora Bradley Barden studied at the Dublin Metropolitan School of Art and later worked there as an assistant teacher.
My intention is to obtain copies of all of her work and display it on
these pages so that all her descendants can enjoy them.
Here are some of her portraits:

Bernard Barden, DB's husband. Bit of a handful. |

This man was probably an art school model |

Mary Barden (Auntie May) I wonder if in fact this was painted by Dora's son Hugh |
I've always liked this gentle portrait.
I think that the lady on the right might be posed by one of DB's
relatives because she has the same nose as some of the Barden ladies.

This one belongs to Judith. It came from a sketch book and her father Brian wrote on it "the Indian lady" |

Another model , or possibly DBB's sister Catherine?. |
If you have one of Dora's paintings, I would be very grateful if you
could take a good, in focus digital photo of it and send it to me to add
to this collection.
This is such a good idea Deirdre and the pictures have come out really well. It's lovely to see them all together.
ReplyDeleteI've really enjoyed looking through this blog - well done Deirdre and Judy. I recognise some of the pictures from Dora, but there's lots of new pictures and loads of new information. Great!
ReplyDeleteLooking at the last picture, and knowing now that Dora attended her niece Janet Esther Naile's wedding in London in 1906, I wonder could this lady be Janet. I think she bears a strong ressemblance to one of the girls in the photo of Bessie Kate's daughters.
